January Office Furniture Shipments Up 9%

Grand Rapids, MI, March 6, 2000--The office furniture shipments rose 9 percent in January, a slower growth rate than in recent months, but still strong, according to a Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association study. Shipments had grown at a double-digit rate for five consecutive months before January, according to the association's survey data disclosed by analysts, which reflected robust demand for furniture following a tough industry period from 2001 to 2003. The 9 percent rise in shipments, to $810 million, came on top of a 17 percent year-over-year gain in January 2005, according to the study released on Thursday.
