Invista Donates Global Warming Credits

Kennesaw, GA, Sept. 18--Invista, formerly DuPont Textiles & Interiors, the manufacturer of Antron carpet fiber, will retire 2,258 pounds of global warming credits to offset emissions caused by energy use at the Symposium on Healthcare Design in Boston, MA Sept. 17-20. The credits represent a reduction from the Invista Sabine River Plant in Orange, TX, equivalent to 700,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. "Antron is proud to be the only carpet face fiber that has achieved Environmentally Preferable Product certification, signifying a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared to other products and services that serve the same purpose. Through our efforts, we have offset global warming emissions caused by the 2002 USGBC conference, the EnvironDesign7 conference, NeoCon 2003, and the Symposium on Healthcare Design this year," said Vivek Bhide, Healthcare Segment manager for Antron. Global warming credits are awarded to companies that take action to reduce pollutant emissions. Credits can typically be sold, traded or banked for future use. Rather than trading these emission credits, Invista has chosen to donate the credits to Leonardo Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to putting the competitive market to work on improving the environment. Through the organization's Cleaner and Greener program, the credits will be retired, offsetting the amount of pollution that is discharged to the atmosphere from travel, hotels, utilities, and all potential emissions connected to the Symposium on Healthcare Design 2003. "Invista is aggressively translating its business to sustainable growth focuses, including significant reductions in global warming emissions, hazardous wastes and energy consumption," said Alan Wolk, president, interiors & industrial, Invista. The Symposium on Healthcare Design is a unique event focusing on the challenges of creating a healthcare environment that improves the quality of care and ultimately increases the profitability of the facility. The Symposium educates and exposes designers, architects, care providers, health care executives, and facility planners/managers to the most progressive developments in healthcare design. "We are very excited to partner with Invista to offset the amount of emissions released by the conference," said Colleen Craig for the Symposium on Healthcare Design. "This type of action speaks to both Invista and the Symposium's commitment to sustainability and environmentalism in design."
