
Washington, DC, July 25, 2013 — Initial claims for unemployment benefits last week rose by 7,000 to 343,000 from a revised 336,000 the week before, according to the Labor Department.
Economists were expecting 340,000 applications.
Seasonal events, such as the retooling by the automakers and summer school closings influenced the numbers.
