India's Ceramic Industry to Boost Exports

New Delhi, India, September 2—The Indian ceramic industry has received approval from Government of India for an initiative to boost exports of ceramic and related products to countries such as Mexico, the UK, and the US. The industry will initially study these markets, evaluate the potential demand, and generate enquiries. The top ten exporting countries, which include Germany, Austria, France, China, and Belgium, account for nearly 76 percent of total ceramic exports across the world. India has a mere 0.34 percent share in global exports of ceramic products. The Indian ceramic industry is now taking on international competition by adopting modern technologies. In 2003-2004, Indian exports of ceramics and allied products including refractories have risen by 20.6 percent to $191 million from $159 million in 2002-2003.
