Homeownership Rates Held Steady in Q4

Washington, DC, February 28, 2019-The homeownership rate of 64.8% was not statistically different from the rate in Q4 2017 (64.2%) nor from the rate in the third quarter 2018 (64.4%), according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

National vacancy rates in Q4 2018 were 6.6% for rental housing and 1.5% for home-owner housing. 

The rental vacancy rate of 6.6% was not statistically different from the rate in Q4 2017 (6.9%), but lower than the rate in Q3 2018 (7.1%). 

The homeowner vacancy rate of 1.5% was 0.1 percentage point lower than the rate in Q4 2017 and also 0.1 percentage point lower than the rate in Q3 2018 (1.6% each).
