Florida Tile Wins Award for Humanitarian Efforts

Lexington, KY, May 25, 2010--Florida Tile recently received the Award of Excellence from Mountain Re-Source for the company’s continuing humanitarian efforts in Appalachia and, most recently, for the victims of the Haitian earthquake.

The award was made by West Virginia-based Mountain Re-Source, a non-profit organization whose mission is it is to “match the under-resourced with the overstocked.” The award was presented during Coverings, April 27-30.

Through a pair of programs, worldwide Habitat for Humanity and the regional Mountain Re-Source (the latter supporting disadvantaged Americans in the rural Kentucky and West Virginia mountain areas) and through its efforts to support Haiti’s "Operation Compassion,” Florida Tile has thus far found humanitarian use for and donated more than $600,000 in surplus first-quality tile which otherwise would have been destined for clean fill projects or plant recycling.

According to early statistics, Florida Tile recently answered Haiti’s post-earthquake call for tile with nearly 20% of the half-million-square-feet requested by Operation Compassion.
