Fire Destroys Pennsylvania Floor Covering Store

Upper Marion, PA, November 21, 2006–Firefighters in Montgomery County spent Monday night battling a large fire at a carpet store, King Carpet Mart at 1220 Dekalb Pike.

Investigators say no one was inside the building when the fire started.

A driver passing by the store around 9:00 p.m. called 911. The building did not have a smoke alarm.

By the time police and firefighters arrived on the scene, the building was engulfed in flames.

Authorities say a propane tank exploded inside the building, adding to the difficulty of fighting the flames.

By 11:30, the fire had nearly burned itself out. The building was destroyed.

The cause is under investigation.
