Costco's Same Store Sales Rise

Issaquah, WA, Jun. 3--Costco Wholesale Corp. on Thursday reported a 16% jump in May sales at stores open at least a year, helped by strong demand for food. The largest U.S. warehouse club operator said total sales for the four weeks ended May 30 were $3.80 billion, up 19% from a year earlier. The latest four-week period included 28 days of sales compared to 27 days last year, reflecting the timing of Memorial Day. The calendar shift had a positive impact on sales of about 3%, the company said.
