Las Vegas, NV, Jan. 4--For customers of the Carpet Barn, the New Year became a little happier Friday. Another carpet retailer announced it's taking over the Carpet Barn's operations, according to KLASTV Las Vegas.
For nearly 30 years Roy Shelton has competed with Carpet Barn. The President of Cloud Carpets and Draperies remembers how well known Carpet Barn used to be.
A full-page ad from the Review Journal in 1981 highlights the position it held on top. But now the carpet giant has gone under, and Shelton has come to the rescue of customers who had handed over their money. "Cloud is going to either return those deposits to those customers or make good on every single contract that we have now, which is upwards to around 97 contracts to this point," he says.
For Carpet Barn customers like Mary Davis, who purchased a rug, but never received it, this is the best news possible. Davis spent $540 on a carpet to go under a dining room table. When Carpet Barn closed its doors, she had nowhere to turn. But Davis says she never expected this, "Oh, very thankful, if it weren't for Channel 8 and this other company taking over. It's not everyday I have $540, its nice to hear I might get my money back."
Shelton says, "It's good for Cloud, it's good for our consumers in the Valley and for us to be able to go forward and clean some of this up. It's unfortunate that this happened."
Like the samples on their showroom floor that flip from side to side, Cloud Carpets and Draperies hopes to turn the page on this unfortunate event. A cloud that truly has a silver lining.
