Ceramic tile imports down 3.9% for first five months of year

New York, NY, July 11, 2024-In the first five months of 2024, total U.S. imports of ceramic tile were 71.8 million square meters, a decline of 3.9% from the same period in 2023 when imports were 74.7 million square meters, reports Grosser Consulting.

The decrease was due to the decline in imports from Mexico (-21.1%), Brazil (-24.7%) and Turkey (-19.3%). Imports from India were up by 10.2%, from Spain by 2.4% and from Italy by 6.6%.

The outlier is Vietnam, with imports up by 42.9% from 2.2 million square meters to 3.2 million square meters. Ceramic tile from Vietnam now has a marketshare of 4.5% in quantity.

Imports in square meters were as follows: India in first place with 15.8 million square meters, followed by Spain with 12.8 million square meters, Mexico with 11.5 million square meters, Italy with 11.4 million square meters, Brazil with 5.5 million square meters, Turkey with 4.9 million square meters and Vietnam with 3.2 million square meters.

Imports in dollars were as follows: Italy in first place with $234 million, followed by Spain with $193 million, Mexico with $103 million, India with $83 million, Turkey with $40 million, Brazil with $37 million and Vietnam with $21 million.
