Ceramic Imports Declined in 2024, Vinyl Imports Rose

Charlotte, NC, February 11, 2025-In 2024, ceramic imports were down for the third consecutive year, while vinyl flooring imports increased though share gain seemed to be slowing, reports Truist.

“…following a weak industry, ceramic imports were off 3% to 4% in dollars and units in 2024, and imports are down 14% since the 2021 high. Note the past few months have been positive, with December up 5% in units, however. The share of imports from India, Spain, Italy and Mexico has remand relatively unchanged over this span, with all between a 15% to 20% share of imports.

Vinyl “imports were up 3.0% in units for the year and were positive 7.4% YOY in December. The past several years have seen mixed units, with imports off roughly 6% from the 2022 high. Import dollars were off dramatically in 2023, although slowed this loss with a 7% gain in 2024. Overall, dollars are still off 20% from the 2022 high. China's share of imports has fallen by almost half to 46% over the past six years, and we expect more declines particularly given the recent tariff. Vietnam and South Korea are gaining unit share, with the former most likely to become the largest import source, in our view.”
