Armstrong Earns Department of Energy 2020 Better Practice Award

Lancaster, PA, June 25, 2020-The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Better Plants partner Armstrong Flooring with a 2020 Better Practice Award for the company’s “Zero-Kilowatt Challenge,” an innovative effort to reduce energy during plant shutdown. Armstrong Flooring was formally recognized with the award at the 2020 Better Buildings/Better Plants Summit, a virtual leadership symposium, held on June 10.

The annual Better Practice Awards are bestowed upon partners for innovative and industry-leading accomplishments in implementing and promoting practices, principles, and procedures of energy management. Armstrong Flooring was honored for its work to reduce energy at its Lancaster, Pennsylvania, plant, where energy was reduced by more than 50% during plant shutdown. The successful effort, which included updating plant shutdown procedures, monitoring energy spikes during shutdown and establishing audit procedures for plant shutdown, is currently being replicated at the company’s other plants.
