Alabama Retailer Focuses on Service

Madison, AL, February 23--Kim Hammonds, owner of Flooring Designs of Madison, said customer service is what sets her business apart from other flooring businesses, including large warehouse stores, according to the Huntsville Times. "We want to give people a quality job at a fair price," she said. "We want them to have an overall pleasurable experience. We want them to be totally pleased with what they get here." Flooring Designs of Madison moved in the fall from a nearby location to its new store at 7429-B U.S. 72. The store sells "all types of floor covering: carpet, hardwood, ceramic tile," both domestic and imported varieties, Hammonds said. "We have an emphasis on natural stone." Another popular floor covering is cork. "We do it in a lot of kitchens, great rooms, offices, studies," she said. Business is split between new home owners and builders to those who are remodeling existing homes, Hammonds said. Design consultation is one of the store's best features. "We really take pride in our work and our attention to detail," said Hammonds, who worked in the same industry for other businesses for 20 years before founding Flooring Designs of Madison two years ago. Typical flooring jobs require someone from the store to visit the home and take measurements. "We do a lot of customer tile work, showers, backsplashes, things like that," she said. It's not good enough for people to feel "just OK" about the store's products and service, Hammonds said. "I want people to love what we do for them. That's the bottom line. We're not happy until they're happy."
