25% Tariff on Chinese Flooring Imports Still in Effect

July 23, 2019--Despite confusing news coverage from one of the industry’s newspapers, the 25% tariff on imported floorcovering products from China remains in effect. The confusion allegedly stems from an Associated Press story written on June 23rd quoting President Trump’s decision to “hold off” on plans to impose tariffs on the final list of $300 billion worth of goods imported from China that Trump had threatened to add when the talks broke down in May.

According to Harlan Stone, CEO of HMTX in a FloorDaily interview, “Any flooring products arriving in the U.S. after June 15 will be subject to a 25% tariff.” In addition to being a major importer of LVT, Stone is the founder of the American Consumers & Workers Justice Coalition that has opposed these Section 301 tariffs on Chinese flooring products since they were first announced in mid 2018.

Floorcovering is part of the $250 billion list that, as of today, is still being impacted at the 25% rate.
