New Products 2020: A sneak peek at new productions to the residential market - Jan 2020

By Beth Miller

This year kicks off with two premier flooring shows, The International Surface Event (TISE) and Domotex USA. TISE will take place January 27 to 30 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Domotex USA will take place February 5 through 7 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. In addition, there are a number of flooring manufacturers not exhibiting at these shows; their introductions are highlighted here as well.

This year, the Las Vegas Market, which includes many area rug exhibitors, is overlapping with TISE, running from January 26 to 30 at the World Market Center. The shows are collaborating to provide attendees access to a wide variety of home décor, area rugs and gifts. Free shuttle service between the venues will be available.

TISE’s reformatted education curriculum, Converge, will run for a second year, offering attendees the option to float between three tracks: Suits, with a business focus; Creatives, with an A&D community focus; and Hammer + Nails, with an installer focus. One change from last year is that Converge will only take place for the first half of each day, allowing attendees the time to cover the show floor or to network. There are 27 speakers lined up on its education roster.

Hannover Fairs’ Domotex USA 2019 show attracted 5,130 attendees, and as of December 2019, registration had already hit 5,100 for the 2020 show. Domotex USA has ramped up its education offerings for its second year, and the speaker lineup features a number of thought leaders: Denise Lee Yohn, best-selling author and branding expert; Alan Beaulieu, international economic analyst and president of the Institute for Trend Research; and James Dion, an expert in merchandising and consumer engagement who is founder and president of Dionco, Inc.

SOFT SURFACE
Anderson Tuftex-TISE Booth 2037, Domotex Booth 1603
Anderson Tuftex, a Shaw brand, will showcase its Artifact series. Within the series are three distinct collections, offering both broadloom and engineered wood options. Each one characterizes a culture from a different part of the world. The collections will be available in March.

The Terra collection, as the name suggests, expresses qualities found in nature, specifically the earthy textures of Mexico. It is available in four broadloom styles and one engineered wood product. Also, Kindred is a collection influenced by the journey to the top of Machu Picchu. It comes in three broadloom styles and two wood offerings. And Yin’s design comes from the Chinese concept of yin and yang and offers seven broadloom styles and two wood.

The firm is also adding to its Classics collection with three new soft surface and one wood. These offerings will be available this April.

Mohawk-TISE Booth 5803
Mohawk will highlight two new Airo broadloom collections. These introductions will include a solid high bulk, cut-pile texture and a multicolor texture featuring ColorMax technology for maximum color clarity and enhanced cleanability. Airo is latex-free and, according to the firm, its unified construction will not absorb moisture, inhibiting the growth of allergens. The firm contends that Airo’s construction provides 50% more airflow than traditional carpet, enabling more release of dust, dirt and pet dander when vacuumed.

Mohawk’s SmartStrand Silk program will unveil its new, interactive anchor display targeting 2,000 premier retailers. Additionally, the expansion of SmartStrand Silk will include a total of six new products, including five featuring ColorMax technology, combined with one tonal and multicolor heavy pattern.

Mohawk is previewing an entirely new EverStrand Soft Appeal line of soft polyester carpet that will feature nine new products, including four premium ultra-soft solid and tonal carpets, two solid and tonal textured carpets, and three multi-level tonal patterns.

The EverStrand collection is also expanding to offer a greater assortment of styles, including five loop-pattern carpets in various constructions and weights, adding to the current assortment of 25 styles.

EverStrand branded carpet uses, on average, 63 reclaimed plastic bottles per square yard. In 2019, Mohawk recycled 6.6 billion plastic bottles, enough to wrap around the earth more than 33 times.

Karastan-TISE Booth 5803
Karastan will be showcasing new offerings in its SmartStrand, wool and Kashmere nylon. The firm’s SmartStrand Silk, with ColorMax technology, offers two new looks: Refined Details and Polished Details. And SmartStrand Ultra will be showcased in two friezes and a tone-on-tone look in a modern loop.

Karastan will launch two new wool products. Modern Framework is a multicolor tufted style, and Intricate Detail, also tufted, features a tailored pinpoint pattern. Kashmere nylon, featuring ColorMax technology, will showcase Magnetic Beauty in a range of colors.

The firm’s Kashmere nylon line is expanding to include four new looks. Stylish Aesthetic is a modern design in a neutral color palette of taupes and greys. Modern Effects is a contemporary design reminiscent of distressed stone or concrete. Elegant Details comes in a striated tree-bark pattern. And Refined Legacy features a large-scale crosshatch pattern.

Godfrey Hirst-TISE Booth 5803
Godfrey Hirst will offer nine updates within the SmartStrand, EverLux nylon and wool categories, along with a redesigned merchandising system.

Within the SmartStrand introductions is Chic Appeal, a high-twist frieze in a tailored construction; Charming Edge, blending diamond and parquet visuals; Classic Frame, a large-scale interpretation of a Celtic knot; and Modern Texture, a subtle, geometric tonal pattern.

New EverLux collection additions include Graceful Intrigue, a multicolor cut pile, also with ColorMax. And the firm will unveil a new ColorMax pattern with a modern take on the diamond trellis.

In the tufted wool category, Godfrey Hirst will debut Alderney, a herringbone pattern; Berber Vogue 2, a traditional heathered level loop; and Collanmore, a cozy, chunky large loop wool.

Stanton Carpet-TISE Booth 6047
Stanton Carpet will showcase its Ticking Stripe II carpet under its Crescent brand. The collection is a hand-loomed, flatwoven broadloom made of 100% New Zealand wool with a simple yet sophisticated stitch-like pattern featuring pops of color.

Privee Prisma, under the Rosecore brand, offers an ombre effect in a wide color palette. Available in six different colorways, the pattern is an interpretation of a wide stripe. Made of a high-quality wool and premium nylon blend, Privee Prisma is hand-loomed and hand-sheared for an antique affect.

Engineered Floors-TISE Booth 403
Engineered Floors will showcase Aberdeen, a featured product in the new DW Select collection. This product marks the unveiling of the firm’s patented twistX yarn system. Aberdeen is influenced by nature and uses both color and texture to create a sophisticated natural softness.

Redwood is inspired by the northern California coastline-its beauty combined with the dramatic contrast of its natural elements. Color, texture and pattern come together to create a calm yet rugged look.

Artisan, also based on natural elements, makes use of a rich taupe color and rhythmic texture to create a pattern that appears as though it were hand-crafted.

The Dixie Group-TISE Booth 6255, Domotex Booth 1913
The Dixie Group is turning 100 years old in 2020, and its exhibit this year will include a timeline showing the transition from yarn manufacturer and supplier to carpet company to flooring company.

The firm is expanding its EnVision66 nylon program across all three divisions-Dixie Home, Masland and Fabrica-with a broad range of price points and visuals from basic cut piles to multicolor patterns and loops. Dixie anticipates launching 15 to 20 styles.

The Technique collection will launch in the high-end Fabrica line in a variety of visuals made with either EnVision66 nylon or Strongwool yarn systems. The collection blends abstract patterns with elements of both color and texture layered into woven-like visuals.

The Fabrica display system is getting a refresh with a new black and grey finish. With this update, Dixie will have completed a merchandising refresh on all three of its divisions within the last two years.

Mosaic, designed with tonal and cross-color barber pole yarn combinations, is available in nine colorways. Filigree, styled in a random grid pattern, comes in nine tonal solid/tweed colorations.

Southwind’s Celestial collection is 100% solution dyed, using its So Soft PET with its new ColorSurgeSD yarn, and comes in two designs: Orion is a precision cut and uncut carpet style with textural barber poles; and Capricorn makes use of cut pile styling with combinations of barber poles and accents of ColorSurgeSD yarn.

Couristan plans to unveil ten new area rug collections and 34 new residential broadloom products. The Prairie collection in Falsterbo and Byzantine is constructed with a 100% polyester machine-woven base and a non-skid backing, and is made in China. The designs emulate cowhides in various digitally printed patterns.

Phenix-TISE Booth 1437
Phenix is expanding its Modern Contours collection with Elegance and Weft.

Elegance’s design is a nod to the modern farmhouse, layered with the texture of brick patterning. Weft, a textured-level loop chunky patterned grid in eight warm and cool colors, is inspired by the cozy lifestyle of Hygge.

The firm is also launching a new nylon called SureSoftSDN in its Desire line. Desire is patterned with a natural-look stria that is enhanced with tonal highlights. It comes in nine colorways.

Worthington Oak and Worthington Herringbone are made from European oak trees with smaller rings and cleaner grain patterns. Villapoint Maple is characterized by European maple’s compact grain pattern.

LuxeCraft’s Refined Forest is inspired by the wood from weathered fences, softwood cypress and hickory marked by mineral streaking and grain patterning.
