Beyond Las Vegas - February 2010

By Brian Hamilton

Mohawk and Shaw, the two largest players in the flooring industry, continue their recent tradition of bypassing the Surfaces trade show in favor of
regional shows for dealers across the country. This is the seventh year that those major brand names will be absent. However, some of their
subsidiaries, such as Mohawk’s Daltile and Quick-Step, and Shaw’s Anderson Hardwood, do have a presence at the show. Also this year Mohawk’s Wear-Dated and SmartStrand fibers will have dedicated spaces at the show to exhibit carpet made from those fibers.

In addition, many smaller but significant players are also not exhibiting at Surfaces. Armstrong, which has been prominent in this annual feature for years, is returning to the show for the first time since 2003.
