Nonfarm Employment Rose by 57K in June, Unemployment Virtually Flat


Washington, DC, July 2, 2026—Both total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 57,000, and the unemployment rate changed little at 4.2% in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. 

Employment continued to trend up in professional and business services, social assistance, and health care. Leisure and hospitality lost jobs.
