Washington, DC, June 4, 2013 — The average size of new homes has grown significantly in the last three years, according to a Census Bureau report released Monday.
In 2012, the median home in the U.S. hit an all-time record of 2,306 square feet.
During the recession, the average new home declined in size by 6% over two years to 2,135 square feet.
Experts say that more affluent buyers have easier access to credit, and they are more likely to build larger homes.
