Ann Arbor, MI, Sept. 30, 2011 — Consumer sentiment rose to 59.4 in September but was still at a low level after falling to a nearly three-year low 55.7 in August, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan index.
Economists had expected a smaller increase to 57.6.
A preliminary reading released earlier this month estimated a sentiment level of 57.8 for September.
