Iran Has World’s Largest Octagonal Carpet


Naeen, Iran, Aug. 31, 2009–The world’s largest octagonal carpet has been unveiled in Naeen located in Iran’s central Isfahan Province. 

The 125 square meter carpet, which has been gifted to a religious center, bears patterns reflecting Naeen deserts and the traditional architecture of the Hoseiniya ceiling. 

It also features traditional Persian patterns, which are a characteristic of Iranian carpets, IRNA reported. 

The preliminary design of the cream-colored carpet was produced by maestro Valiollah Sharei-Naeeni and the colors were adjusted by maestro Mohammad Saeedizadeh-Naeeni. 

Naeen is famous for its unique rugs and carpets and houses one of Iran’s oldest mosques as well as a Sassanid fortress now in ruins.
