Durable Goods Orders Off 2.1%


Washington, DC, October 27, 2005—Orders for durable goods fell 2.1% in September, according to a report from the Commerce Department.

The decline was broad-based, with a sharp drop in aircraft orders.

Economists were expecting a decline of 1.1% during the month.

Durable orders in August were revised to a 3.8% increase from 3.4% previously estimated.

Transportation orders fell 4.7% in September as civilian aircraft orders declined 41.6%. Stripping out the drop in demand for transportation goods, new orders fell 1%.
