Vinyl Equipment Damaged in Armstrong Fire

Lancaster, PA, Jan. 21, 2014 -- A fire caused $250,000 damage at the Armstrong World Industries' Lancaster floor plant on Monday.

The early morning fire struck inside a huge oven that is used to make vinyl flooring.

Material apparently got piled up inside the oven and began to burn, according to reports.

Employees tried to extinguish the fire, but couldn't. No one was hurt.

The fire damaged the oven, some electricity lines and some ventilation ductwork. The building itself was not damaged.

The plant will be open but not making flooring right now, the company said. It will serve customers from warehouse inventory.

The fire does not affect the $41 million expansion underway at the plant, the company said.
