Retail Sales in Jan. Rose 5.6% YOY, According to Advance Estimate

Washington, DC, February 15, 2017—Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for January 2017 were $472.1 billion, an increase of 0.4% from the previous month and 5.6% above January 2016, the Census Bureau announced.

Total sales for the November 2016 through January 2017 period were up 4.6% from the same period a year ago.

The November 2016 to December 2016 percent change was revised from up 0.6% to up 1.0%.

Retail trade sales were up 0.2% from December 2016, and up 5.6%

from last year.

Gasoline Stations sales were up 14.2% from January 2016, while Nonstore Retailers were up 12.0% from last year.
