Mohawk to Buy Godfrey Hirst

Dalton, GA, November 21, 2017-Mohawk has announced its plans to purchase Australian carpet firm Godfrey Hirst.

Godfrey Hirst, Australia’s largest carpet maker, was established in 1865. The company has been privately owned by the McKendrick family for about 50 years and has global sales of $334 million (in U.S. dollars).

The company is the world marketshare leader in tufted wool and also sells PET and PetProtect products.

Its U.S. operations are headquartered in Adairsville, Georgia, and its U.S. sales organization is comprised of 70 direct sales employees.

Godfrey Hirst employs more than a 1,000 people in Australia and New Zealand.

The Austrailian Financial Review estimates the deal to be $500 million, though Mohawk did not offer details.

"Godfrey Hirst's marketing, manufacturing and distribution leadership will complement our current hard surface distribution and strengthen our portfolio," Jeff Lorberbaum, CEO of Mohawk, told the Times Free Press. "We will leverage our global flooring resources and talent to support Godfrey Hirst's outstanding management and accelerate their growth strategies."
