ITC to Further Investigate Chinese Hardwood Plywood Dumping

Reston, VA, January 4, 2017—In a unanimous vote, the U.S. International Trade Commission determined that there is a reasonable indication that the U.S. hardwood plywood industry is being materially injured by imports of hardwood plywood from China, The Hardwood, Plywood and Veneer Association reports (HPVA).

“These imports are allegedly subsidized by the Chinese government and sold in the U.S. at less than fair value,” notes HPVA. “As a result, the U.S. Department of Commerce will continue to conduct its antidumping and countervailing duty investigations into China.”

Investigations of dumping were initiated when the Coalition for Fair Trade of Hardwood Plywood filed a petition with Commerce and the International Trade Commission alleging that Chinese hardwood plywood is being sold into the U.S. at dumped prices to gain an unfair competitive advantage.

Preliminary results are expected to be published after January 31, a countervailing duty to be set on February 13, and a preliminary antidumping duty determination on April 27.
