Consumer Sentiment Falls in Early August

Washington, DC, Aug. 15, 2014 -- The preliminary August reading on the University of Michigan/Thomson Reuters consumer-sentiment index fell to 79.2 from a final July result of 81.8.

That was the lowest level since November.

Economists had expected an increase to 82.3 for August.

Consumers’ views on the upcoming economy fell to 66.2 from 71.8 in July.

However, views on current conditions increased to 99.6 in August from 97.4 in July.
