London, England, Feb. 7, 2013 -- Topps Tiles is bucking the general retail trend in the UK and is adding outlets, according to a Reuters report.
Topps expects to open eight stores this financial year, to add to the 322 it currently operates. It is also relocating and refurbishing existing ones, and believes it could expand to between 350 and 400 in the longer term.
The trend among many British retailers is to close some stores in favor of on-line sales.
Although Topps' profits have fallen by more than 50% during the downturn, the company says its products and customer service are helping it take marketshare from independent firms and home centers.
