Tile Maker Plan U.S. Headquarters in Tennessee

Loudon, TN, Dec. 20, 2012 -- Italian ceramic floor tile manufacturer Ceramica Del Conca said it plans to put a 320,000-square-foot manufacturing, research, showroom and administrative facility on a 30-acre site in Loudon.

The $70 million investment would create nearly 180 jobs at its new U.S. headquarters in East Tennessee.

The company plans to employ managerial, technical, engineering, administrative, production and distribution workers and start operations before the end of 2013.

Tennessee is becoming a popular state for tile manufacturing. Two Italian firms have situated their plants there: Florim in Clarksville and Fiandre-owned Stonepeak in Crossville. Upper end commercial manufacturer Crossville is also located in the town of the same name.

Manufacturers are choosing the state for a couple of reasons. First, the best clay for making porcelain tile comes out of Tennessee and North Carolina. Second, Tennessee is centrally located to serve the eastern U.S., which helps reduce freight costs.
