Surfaces Preview - December 2012

By Jessica Chevalier

Surfaces 2013, the industry’s largest residential trade show, will take place January 28 to 31 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

New to the show floor this year is the Business Enrichment Center, a place for attendees to catch quick seminars on business topics such as social media, technology and customer service. The Business Enrichment Center will have a cash bar, and a cozy atmosphere for attendees to relax and network.

This year, Designer Day will be extended from one day to two, Tuesday and Wednesday—one day for hard surface, one for soft. There is a three-tier pricing system for the event, so designers can choose the program that best suits their needs. Once again, attendance is limited to 40 designers daily. This year’s Designer Day speakers are Victoria Redshaw, lead trend forecaster at Scarlet Opus Limited; Shelley Pond, creative director at Scarlet Opus; celebrity designer Erinn Valencich, who designs for Quick-Step; Mark Woodman, president of the Color Marketing Group; and celebrity designer John Gidding of HGTV’s Curb Appeal.

Once again, Surfaces will partner with Floor Focus Magazine on the Trends Hub, which this year will be styled as a research and design laboratory. The Trends Hub offers show attendees a place to relax and look at some of the trendiest products that Surfaces has to offer. This year’s Trends Hub will add an Eco-Lab section, displaying products with green credentials.
