Shaw To Raise Carpet Prices in March

Dalton, GA, Feb. 12, 2013 -- Shaw Industries is raising its carpet prices 3% to 5% effective with orders on March 11, according to a customer letter.

Mohawk and Beaulieu have reportedly followed Shaw and are raising their prices as well but details were not immediately available.

Shaw said that raw materials for carpet, such as intermediate chemicals like benzene, are setting historical price records, and others including paraxylene and polypropylene have also seen significant increases.

The moves have increased costs for fiber and backing used in carpet. In addition, Shaw cited higher labor and transportation costs.

Shaw said its minimum increase will be $0.18 per yard.

Floordaily will publish more information on increases by Mohawk and Beaulieu as information becomes available.
