Minnesota EPR Legislation Excludes Carpet

Minneapolis, MN, May 23, 2013 -- Language that would have included carpet in extended producer responsibility legislation in Minnesota was removed before the bill's passage this month.

The legislation, which is awaiting the governor's signature, did include additional regulations on electronics and architectural paint that would encourage recycling.

Minnesota was one of a handful of states to introduce extended producer responsibility legislation specific to carpet. In its original form, the law would have forced the carpet industry to add fees to incentivize recycling.

CRI Vice President Jennifer Mendez said she expected that similar legislation will be reintroduced next year.
