Leading Economic Indicators Rise in January

Washington, DC, Feb. 20, 2014 -- The index of U.S. leading indicators rose 0.3 percent in January, according to the Conference Board.

Five of the 10 indicators in the index, which anticipates the next three to six months rose, including a decline in jobless claims and a pickup in factory orders. However, decreases in building permits and hours worked weighed held the index back.

The Conference Board’s index of current economic activity rose 0.1 percent for a second month.
