Jobless Claims Rise Last Week

Washington, DC, Oct. 18, 2012 -- Initial applications for unemployment benefits rose to a three-month high last week, according to the Labor Department.

New jobless claims jumped by 46,000 to a seasonally adjusted 388,000 in the week ended Oct. 13. Economists had expected claims would rise to 365,000.

Initial claims from two weeks ago were revised up slightly to 342,000 from an original reading of 339,000.
