Georgia Unemployment Grows but Dalton Layoffs Fall

Atlanta, GA, Aug. 14, 2014 -- Unemployment in Georgia in July rose to the highest rate since last October, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The Georgia Department of Labor said the state's unemployment rate rose from 7.4% to 7.8% as employment fell by 12,800 jobs. The rate in July of last year was 8.3%.

The July rate increase was primarily due to temporary seasonal layoffs in local government and manufacturing, the government said.

However, in the Dalton area, claims for jobless benefits continued to decline. They were down nearly 39% from the previous month.
