Crossville Diversion Program Hits 40M Pounds

Crossville, TN, April 23, 2014 -- Tile maker Crossville said it has diverted a total of 40 million pounds of fired porcelain since launching its Tile Take-Back program and TOTO USA partnership.

The company has a proprietary process for recycling fired porcelain products, including post consumer materials.

Through Tile Take-Back, Crossville recycles previously installed tile collected from its distribution network, as well as scraps that result from tile cutting during installation, sizing, or sample creation.

Through its TOTO partnership, Crossville uses post-industrial fired porcelain toilets that do not meet quality standards.

All 40 million pounds of diverted material will be converted into feed stock to manufacture new tile.

In 2013, the company said it ground and reused 7,706,286 pounds of fired scrap produced at the company’s plants that would have previously gone to landfills.
