Consumer Spending Up in December

Washington, DC, Jan. 31, 2013 -- Consumer spending increased in December, according to the Commerce Department.

The government said that spending rose 0.2% in December after a 0.4% increase in November. It said incomes grew 2.6%, the most in eight years, due mostly to bonuses and special dividends companies paid ahead of income tax increases this year.
