California Passes Lumber Tax but Excludes Flooring

Sacramento, CA, Sept. 14, 2012 -- California has passed a 1% tax on lumber that excludes indoor flooring, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The law, which takes effect in January, was designed to protect the California timber industry. The law eliminates regulatory fees on California manufacturers.

Under current law, about 70% of California's lumber comes from outside the state.
