Builders Constrained by Shortage of Workers

New York, NY, May 10, 2013 -- Home builders are struggling to find enough skilled labor to meet rising demand for their products, the Associated Press outlined in a story Friday.

Home building would be boosting the economy even more than it is if builders could fill more job openings, AP said.

And, among other things, that's leading to higher pay for some skilled workers who are in the right locations.

The shortage of labor is apparent in nearly every occupation associated with home building, including floor covering installers, and is most acute in areas like Arizona where the rebound has been the strongest. It's due largely to how many workers were laid off during the recession and have since found employment in other industries.
