Nebraska Furniture to Expand its Kansas City Locat

Kansas City, MO, July, 28--Nebraska Furniture Mart plans a $28 million expansion at its Kansas City, store that will more than double the size of the company’s warehouse, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. "We've exceeded our sales projections, and we need a bigger warehouse," the store's marketing manager, Stacy Coziahr, said Wednesday. "The bigger warehouse will result in quicker deliveries for our customers because we'll have more room to store inventory." The store, at 1601 Village West Parkway near the Kansas Speedway, opened in August 2003. Its warehouse contains 262,000 square feet and will contain 622,000 square feet after the expansion, Coziahr said. The project will start in August and is scheduled for completion in fall 2006. Turner Construction Co. of Kansas City is the project's general contractor. The store has 1,000 mostly full-time employees, Coziahr said. The company will add employees after the expansion, but it hasn't determined how many, she said. The store will contain about 1.1 million square feet overall after the expansion, she said. Nebraska Furniture Mart sells furniture, flooring, electronics and appliances. It also has stores in Omaha, where it is based, and Des Moines. The Kansas City, Kan., store has made more than 2 million sales and had more than 7 million visitors since it opened, Coziahr said. The company doesn't disclose revenue at its individual stores, she said.
