Interiors '04: It’s All About Collaboration

Washington, DC, Jan. 22--Organizations representing a broad variety of disciplines with an interest in, or affect on, the design of the built environment will provide exciting educational programs during Interiors 04: The ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Conference on Design. This unique conference, open to all designers of the built environment, will take place March 4-7 at the Savannah nternational Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, GA. "ASID is proud of the breadth and depth of the educational programs to be provided during Interiors 04 and the collaboration in the development of these programs among ASID and a variety of other organizations," said ASID President Linda Elliott Smith, FASID. "The Society is especially pleased that AARP, the Center for Health Design, the Color Marketing Group and IFMA have agreed to lead educational sessions during the conference. Their involvement and unique expertise will only strengthen the learning experiences of participants." AARP will present two sessions, "The Aging Baby Boomer Population and the Implications for Society and Design" on Friday, March 5, from 10 a.m.-noon, and "Disabilities and Aging in the Workplace" on Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m.-noon. During "The Aging Baby Boomer Population." AARP long-term care specialists will explore the organization's extensive demographic research on the elderly to inform participants how this large population may profoundly affect how people live, work, play and heal in the coming years. "Disabilities and Aging the Workplace" will provide an overview of AARP's extensive research on the growing aging workplace population with specific reference to the wants, needs, attitudes and requirements of older workers, and how designers can address these special requirements in their workplace projects. The Center for Health Design will lead the session, "The Pebble Project 'Fable Hospital': Evidence to Support the Business Case for Better Buildings" on Friday, March 5, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The presentation will synthesize the Pebble Project experiences and data from carefully evaluated new health facilities to "create" a 300-bed "Fable Hospital" that presents strong evidence supporting the business case for better buildings as a key factor in better and safer health care. IFMA will lead two sessions, "Design Considerations for Secure Workplaces and Facilities" on Friday, March 5, from 10 a.m.-noon, and "Radar and Rubber: How to Plan Flexible Facilities Even When the Future Is Foggy" on Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m.-noon. "Design Considerations" will investigate the factors necessary for designing secure workplace and facility settings and the role that designers and space planners can play in this process. "Radar and Rubber" will cover the key factors necessary to plan ahead ("radar") to build flexibility ("rubber") into projects. The Color Marketing Group will present "Color Sells...and the 'Right' Colors Sell Better: Trends in Color Design" on Saturday, March 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. During this session, participants will learn how CMG determines the cultural, political and social factors that influence color and how these factors inform the color palettes used in all industries. CMG will provide insight on where color is headed for a variety of design applications.
