Design Ovations - October 2012

Many of TVS Design’s projects are highly branded design solutions expressed through a holistic interior architecture response. The project finishes need to support the overall design but not compete with or overwhelm the impact of the project as a whole. Flooring is a critical design choice as it is typically one of the most expansive products that we specify. The flooring material choice is also often the baseline on which the balance of the finish palette is built. I am most drawn to flooring choices that have a neutrality to them. I tend to favor products that are sophisticated and have a quiet elegance. New products with subtle gradations like the handmade Loophouse rugs and Milliken’s Color Wash carpet tile are lovely. Items with a woven or rustic quality are also very appealing, such as the wood options from TerraMai or Bentley Prince Street’s woven carpets. We also are using more hard surface flooring options such as terrazzo and polished concrete.
