Beyond Las Vegas - January 2013

By Kemp Harr & Jessica Chevalier

Once again, the two largest residential flooring producers, Shaw and Mohawk, are presenting their new products in a regional show format, rather than at Surfaces. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the companies won’t be present in Las Vegas. Last year, in spite of not exhibiting, Mohawk had banners both on the show floor and in the corridors, and it also organized a flash mob promoting its SmartStrand Silk collection to the tune of MC Hammer’s Can’t Touch This.

Soft carpet was a significant trend at last year’s show with the introduction of Mohawk’s Silk and Invista’s TruSoft. This year, the trend continues with Mohawk’s new line of soft nylon called Wear-Dated Embrace, along with some new styling additions to last year’s introduction of SmartStrand Silk. Shaw is also rolling out a soft nylon collection, called Caress.
