Planned Job Cuts Hit 14-Year Low

Chicago, IL, Oct. 2, 2014 -- The number of planned layoffs declined to a 14-year low in September, according to tracking firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Employers planned to cut 30,477 jobs in September, down from more than 40,000 in August.

This year is on track to have the lowest number of planned job cuts since 1997, according to the report.

So far this year the number of planned layoffs is 6.2% fewer than at the same time last year.
