National Retail Federation Expects Holiday Sales Boost

Washington, DC, Oct. 7, 2014 -- Retail spending during the holiday season is expected to be the highest in three years, according to a forecast by the National Retail Federation.

The group said it expects sales during the November and December to rise 4.1% to $616.9 billion, up a percentage point from last year.

"It goes without saying there still remains some uneasiness and anxiety among consumers when it comes to their purchase decisions," said Matthew Shay, president and CEO of the National Retail Federation.

"The lagging economic recovery, though improving, is still top of mind for many Americans."
