Foreclosures Edge Higher in August

Irvine, CA, Sept. 11, 2014 -- Foreclosures rose in August the first time in nearly four years, according to tracking firm RealtyTrac.

Nearly 52,000 homes were up for auction in August, a 1% increase from a year ago. It marked the first year-over-year increase in foreclosure starts since November 2010.

The firm said that many foreclosures got delayed, especially starting in late 2010 in the wake of the "robo-signing" scandal.

Some states passed new laws or regulations to ensure that borrowers were handled more fairly, which has delayed many foreclosures.
