Fort Wayne, IN, July 17, 2009--A new flooring product has been developed to help prevent injuries from falls by the growing elderly population.
The product, Sorbashock, was specifically designed to cushion the body at acute points and potentially reduce injury.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three adults over the age of 65 fall each year in the U.S.
The technology was developed by the University of Notre Dame. The 24 x 24 inch tile reduces the impact force generated by falls.
Company CEO Sam Simonson said the flooring retains its solid feel and remains stable during normal activities. However, when a fall occurs, the floor is designed to cushion the body at acute points and can absorb a significant amount of the impact."
SorbaShock LLC is a subsidiary of LifeLink Technologies LLC and both privately held companies are located in Fort Wayne.
