Winners of 14th Tile of Spain Awards Announced

Miami, FL, February 12, 2016—Tile of Spain, the international brand representing 125 ceramic tile manufacturers belonging to the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER), announces the winners of the 14th Annual Tile of Spain Awards in the categories of Architecture and Interior Design.

On November 27th the jury of judges for the Tile of Spain Awards, presided over by architect Victor López Cotelo, met in Castellón Spain to select the winners.

In the architecture category, the judges decided to award first prize to the project entitled “Pabellón Docente Polivalente Escola Gavina” by Carmen Martínez Gregori, Carmel Gradolo Martinez and Arturo Sanz Martínez. An honorable mention went to “Parking Saint Roch” by Archikubik (Miguel Lacasta, Marc Chalamanch, Carmen Santana).

First prize in the interiors category was awarded to the project entitled “Blue Wave Cocktail Bar” by Equipo Creativo. Honorable mentions in the interiors category were awarded to two projects in the Interior Design category: “Restaurante Disfrutar,” also from El Equipo Creativo, and “L’Atic Vernacle” from El Fabricante de Espheras.

The Tile of Spain Awards also includes a category to acknowledge the best Graduate Project presented by students of Schools of Architecture highlighting the use of ceramic tile in their projects. The jury awarded first prize to the project “Transient Refurbishment” by Laura Alonso Blasco of the ETSA School of Architecture in Madrid. An honorable mention also went to the following: “Paseo Marítimo de Mataró” by Hector Durán Sánchez from the University in Girona and Archaeological Center in the Alhambra” by Agustín Gor Gómez (Architectural School in Granada).

Once again the Tile of Spain awards relied on an exceptional jury. The president, Architect Víctor López Cotelo, was recently distinguished with the 2015 National Architectural Award. The remaining jurors: Laura Andreini, co-founder of the Archea Associati Studi; Portuguese architect, Marcos Cruz; the renown interior designer, Isabel López-Vilalta; Juan Domingo Santos, architect and professor of the ETSA in Granada; Edgar González, renown editor in the field of architecture; and architect Ramón Monfort.

The Tile of Spain Awards includes two main categories, Architecture and Interior Design, each offering cash prizes of 17,000 Euros each. The Final Degree Project category for graduating students of architecture awards winners with 5,000 Euros each.
