Producer Prices Dropped in December, Final Demand Prices Rose

Washington, DC, January 15, 2016—The Producer Price Index for final demand decreased 0.2% in December, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported. Final demand prices increased 0.3% in November and fell 0.4% in October. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index fell 1.0% in 2015, after rising 0.9% in 2014.

In December, the decrease in the final demand index can be traced to a 0.7% decline in prices for final demand goods. In contrast, the index for final demand services moved up 0.1%.

Within intermediate demand, the index for processed goods fell 1.0%, prices for unprocessed goods dropped 3.0%, and the index for services rose 0.2%.
