Petition Calls for Point of Sale Labeling Regarding Slip Resistance

Washington, DC January 22, 2016—A petition requesting that floorcoverings, floorcoverings with coatings and treated floorcoverings include point of sale information regarding the products’ degree of slip resistance has been filed by the National Floor Safety Institute with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The commission voted unanimously to approve publication of the notice in the Federal Register.

Data shows that 23,000 elderly individuals died from accidental falls in 2014, according to the Hardwood, Plywood and Veneer Association. A 60-day comment period may be announced.
