Lowe's Will Pay $2 Million in Installation Overcharging Agreement

Mooresville, NC, November 6, 2015—Lowe’s has reached an agreement with New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman in which it will refund up to 10% of flooring installation fees paid by more than 16,000 customers, according to the Winston Salem Journal.

Schneiderman said Lowe’s, which has 64 stores in New York, overcharged customers by calculating the installation rate based on the square footage of flooring purchased, not how much was actually installed. Lowe’s has agreed to halt this practice in New York.

Under the agreement, the company will return up to $1.1 million in cash refunds and pay $900,000 to the state. Customers who paid the fees from 2009 to 2012 are eligible.

Lowe’s says it mailed impacted customers and, in 2012, began constructing detailed written descriptions in flooring agreements.
